Welcome 2025! , with alien peens and the readers who love them!

Joining the attraction study was supposed to be my chance to finally get alien medical approval to figure out what was wrong with me. I'd tried multiple times to earn some extra credits by being a surrogate, and nothing could explain why I lost each one. Though, the last time I miscarried, I carried long enough to know I wouldn't have given the couple my kid.

Meaning, my options for earning credits drastically decreased. And not just because I was disqualified from trying to be a surrogate again. The last time was only possible because I was the administrator of organizing the donors, and added myself without going through proper protocols. As soon as they review my files during my evaluation next month, I'd be fired anyways.

The attraction study was my way out of consequences for abusing my access to the database for the Humanity Preservation Bureau, HPB.

"Aiden, Commander Tensel is asking for us to meet him at the Security Center. It's urgent," my boss, Head of Security, Olben, said as he walked past me.

Olben was the serious type, and if he was the one person that I never wanted to investigate me. That's why I chose to work for him versus anyone else on the ship. If my cover didn't stick, I wouldn't have the job I have now. And if he did figure it out, he decided he didn't care about the security breach, and that's all that mattered.

"Asking for me, or asking for you while you use me as your buffer, just in case Commander Tensel isn't the only one there," I teased.

It was pretty obvious to everyone besides him that the previous commander of the ship was only here because of him. She was supposed to be transferring to a new assignment, but Commander Rokva was pretty vocal to anyone that would listen that her nose has never been wrong when it comes to matchmaking. With how serious Olben is about security, I'm still surprised that he seems completely unaware.

Not that I care about whether he returns her affections, but it would be a good indication on whether he knew I wasn't who I said I was, but was choosing to keep my secret. Would that ease my worries? Perhaps not, but it would be a start.

"I didn't realize that your job description included asking questions. You're given a task and you follow it. You weren't hired because of whatever qualifications you may have on Earth. You are an experiment just like every hoomun on this ship," he snapped, which was all the evidence I needed to know I was right about Commander Rokva being in attendance.

As grumpy as Olben was, he was actually silently sweet towards me and made sure that I was taken care of on the ship, like a big brother. A grumpy, large alien brother from another mother that could skewer me with his spikes, but strangely, I never once imagined he would do that even if he did find out I was a security risk.

"Yes, yes, I've read the research files on my position. This whole ship is primarily to see if humans are trainable, like puppies. You have research puppies, puppies for breeding, medic puppies, and even your very own security puppy. Woof, woof," I joked. It was how I coped with stress, making light of any situation. Humans really were like pets to the necia warriors, I didn't even have a title, or rank on the ship. My ID lists Olben like he was my owner.

But everything is what you make of it. For a puppy, I was well taken care of, and Olben never treats me like a pet, just like any other officer on the ship under his direct supervision.

"Puppies… this is your planet's ungrown yet tamed beasts, and you think you're tamed?"

"Was that a joke? Did you participate in an unserious occasion of banter?" A smile tugged at the sides of my lips, but I controlled it to stay as flat as his monotoned delivery.

"We will not be adding that observation to the rotation's log, for your sake."

I chuckled and coughed to cover it up. I could care less about the log including a note about how I was related to an untamed puppy, but it would be funny to see a log about Olben joking about it. "Of course, Chief Olben."

"What will you be excluding from your logs, Chief Olben?" We rounded the corner to see Commander Tensel approaching the command deck's door sliding open with the sound of airlocks releasing with a wheeze. His hair was the same color as his eyes, a brilliant amber color that glowed like fire in the right lightening… like now in the lighting of this room.

My shoulders tensed as I stood up straighter like a frightened cat. I guess I was like a pet today. Every time I got close to the commander, I could feel my muscles seize up and all my nerves fire off in warning. What they were warning me about, I couldn't be sure, considering the necia warriors were walking weapons and I should feel that way about every warrior I passed by.

"You are aware that the reports should be thorough to catalogue the data for reasonable thesis testing. Never mind, we have other priorities at the moment,"

Commander Tensel dismissed as soon as he said it, as if his mind was processing out loud and he couldn't keep himself from hearing himself talk. It was the opposite of what I was used to with Chief Olben. He didn't even acknowledge Commander Tensel said anything, just remained silent as he followed the commander through the doors with me in tow.

Commander Rokva was already present, sitting at the helm of the command deck as if she were still commanding this ship. She was the highest ranking necia warrior on the ship, even more honored than Commander Tensel with his recent advancement, but she stood from the chair as if she were simply being helpful as a second in command in his absence.

A hand lifted to adjust the bone pierced through her nose, it was a traditional necia accessory for warriors that had strong scent receptors so they could control the severity of the smells they come across. She smiled, showing off her fangs and practically bounced towards us with her jovial energy, so unlike the other leaders of the tribe I'd come across.

"Olben, I have not seen you at your office for many cycles," she said then whetted her lips as if she were ready to devour him.

He bowed his head and I watched as his epul spikes on his shoulders retracted and then extended again as a sign of respect. "I assure you, I honor my duties regardless of where on the ship I'm located."

I pursed my lips to keep from smiling at the fact that Olben was avoiding her by making rounds through the ship and verifying reports with self-inspections instead of reviewing the reports given by other officers. He insisted that a manual inspection is warranted randomly to keep the warriors accountable to their duties, but it's definitely because he knows exactly where Commander Rokva is on the ship at all times. He's become more obsessive about avoiding being alone with her ever since she decorated the security office with her blood a few star rotations ago.

"Chief Olben," Commander Tensel interrupted before either of them could avoid whatever it was that was happening between them, "You are trained in tracking data across systems, and it's no surprise to you that when I asked for a list of the tribe's best at finding information and tracing data to its source, you are ranked among them. Though it is strange to see that you've chosen this vessel instead of our many warships to station at when you would have had your pick of assignments. I'm not here to judge your honored path among the tribe, and it so happens your skills are required to find a human with only her Earth files to work with."

Olben nodded but didn't say a word as a file appeared on the screen next to us. I stifled a gasp. It was me. It was my file. My cheeks reddened and I wished that I had kept my long hair to hide my face.

"We're looking for a human named Jayden Woodland of Earth. She missed the transport, and it's possible she's still on Earth, but we need to know if she was abducted instead. If she's still on Earth then you can confirm and we'll pick her up, but if she was abducted then we'll have to find another human with her biomarkers while we send a team to retrieve her. Every human looks like another, even their pictures are hard to see beyond their coloring. This one is among the ninety percent of Earth's population to have dark brown to black hair. Even her eyes are brown."

"It is a common coloring for hoomuns," Olben agreed. I could say something about my species, but I remain quiet to see what more I could learn while they ignored me.

"Sou-el said that it's normal for other species to have trouble identifying features even when they are distinctly different as we see on our own faces. He called it cross-tribal effect, which is actually a psychological effect of lumping all humans into perceived otherness and not considering them part of the tribe. The same issue happens between tribes on Necias Prime." Commander Rokva kindly explained while markedly nodding to me in apology. She was acknowledging that I was present, and I could sense she believed this was an issue that needed addressing within the tribes.

There was a reason Rokva was respected and commanded her own crew, and it wasn't a rule out of fear, but one of inclusion and value of every member, even humans.

"So we need another human to help recognize the features we cannot then," Commander Tensel said while staring at me with a lifted brow ridge. "Chief Olben, you'll trace her location through the data, and the youngling human will assist me in locating Jayden of Earth when I retrieve her." He tapped his temples and narrowed his eyes curiously. "Aye-den, sounds like your name represents saying yes-home. Many humans name their spawn after their purposes. It is a strong name to be the home of your tribe. One must be strong to keep the tribe safe and be a place where other warriors rest. Learn well from Olben and earn honor for your name when you are grown."

I was grown, I thought with an internal huff, but said nothing. To them I was a human boy, not even a fully-formed male. It was the only way to pass off as male with how small I was.

"It means fire," I corrected him under my breath as his attention shifted back to Olben.

"So many words for the same thing on your planet," Commander Tensel said with a smile that didn't quite reach his amber-colored eyes. I had a feeling he didn't like being wrong about something, let alone being corrected. "I should like to learn more about how you were taught to attract a mate on your planet. I must practice before we find Jayden of Earth."

I scoffed before I could stop myself. There was no way I'd ever consider Commander Tensel as a mate, no matter how much "honor" he held with his tribe. I'd sooner date Olben and as much as he denied it, I've caught him spying on Rokva several times disguised as avoidance, but I was sure he liked her. Why he stayed away, I wasn't quite sure when it was obvious Rokva liked him back.

"You wish to have a human mate?" Rokva inquired with a kind of enthusiasm that spoke of wanting to claim some involvement with her matchmaking skills.

"I'll start with a human mate to promote more cooperation within the tribe to send spawnlings back to Necias Prime. I'll have enough data during the human's lifespan to then take on a new mate."

"You're going to what, mate a human for science?" I blurt out. How romantic, I thought with sarcasm.

Chief Olben cleared his throat and tried to divert the commander's attention on himself. "A noble sacrifice for the tribe."

"There's nothing noble about using a human like a tissue. That's worse than treating us like puppies," I grumbled.

Olben glared at me to keep quiet, and I shut my mouth while folding my arms over my already bound chest that was now feeling more and more like a straight-jacket, cutting off my air supply.

"Fire," Commander Tensel said with a smile before moving on like I hadn't dishonored a high-ranking warrior. "Olben, you'll transfer the boy into my service so that he may know that I do not treat my tissues or puppies with dishonor."

"Yes, Commander." Olben used his considerable size to guide me out of the room without even touching me. Once we were down the hall, he stopped abruptly, which I only noticed because he made a point to stomp his boots. It was for my benefit, because he was usually so quiet and soft footed, where he could sneak up on a person.

I shifted uncomfortably watching him glare at me. Was this it? Did he know who I was? Would he turn me in now that Commander Tensel was searching for me?

"Commander Tensel is young, and it is common for warriors to mate, battle, and work for honor and status at his age. Nothing he does will be for himself. Everything he does will be for the tribe, even allowing you the honor of learning from him after you insult him is to set an example to other warriors who would seek to duel you instead of train you. If you do not wish to be a puppy, do not act like one," Olben chided and said the most I'd ever heard him say in one go.

He respected Commander Tensel, and made me feel like the boy I pretended to be. Small, and just as biased towards the necia warriors as they are against humans.

"You will resist your hoomun urges towards self-preservation and think instead of honoring the tribe. You are to start your duties beside Commander Tensel next rising."

"Understood, Chief." I didn't have much of a choice, but I kept worrying for how long I'd have to work with the commander, and when I'd return to Chief Olben. How long would this cross-tribal face blindness last before they saw the similarities between me and the picture of the girl they were looking for?

This was a sneak peek at Her Alien Captor, this excerpt is not edited.

My goal is to have this book done by May. I'll keep you posted on my progress as I've had quite a few delays with moving and getting sick, but I'm now getting back into the swing of things and plowing forward with my 2025 goals!

All of my books are standalone alien romances, each a separate complete romance, read in any order, and with their interconnected plots, each book layers and you find out more about the world the more you read. Have questions from one book? Read another one, and you're sure to find more answers, and perhaps more questions as the universe unravels. That's what I love about sci-fi adventures set in the same universe, there's so much room to play!
