I have plans to make a new free newsletter exclusive for everyone this year after I finish up Her Alien Insurgent. I'm still deciding which story to have be the next freebie, but I have quite a few options in the works, and I'll be updating the newsletter exclusive for my S.M. McCoy Fantasy Romances as well.

I have a poll going on now to vote on what kind of book I add as the next newsletter exclusive for paranormal romances that you can participate on.

That's right, I'm going to be making TWO free books for everyone. One alien romance, and one paranormal fantasy romance.

The poll is open for what kind of fantasy romance I write for the newsletter here:

Look forward to seeing which one wins out, I have a story idea for each one and one of them will be given away for free to all newsletter readers!

Waking up from stasis was never going to be a fun experience when trying to stay under the radar. There would be no medic to ease the ache of my unused muscles, or the sharp pain of blood flow returning to my raw skin after a prolonged period of being surrounded by preservation gelatin.

After months of stasis, the first layer of protective skin usually tore, taking layers of dermis with it. Straight down to muscle and broken blood vessels that were healed during a required forced sleep while a medical team pumped our bodies with nanomeds to heal before we woke.

If I were a more resilient species with scales like the trill, or glands with super healing properties like the necia, perhaps stasis wouldn't involve such a painful recovery time without a medbay to assist. But, I knew what I was signing up for when I took on a mission to find a notorious outlaw responsible for a universe-wide biothreat that was destroying worlds across the galaxy, including Earth's birthrates.

The pain was expected, but the noise flooding my mind wasn't. Who the fuck was yelling in my ear? I couldn't even process what they were saying through the shouts and incessant clicking.

"Female..." words were starting to translate through my implant, but delayed and choppy, "human. Registered name, Riley Spearit."

That wasn't my fucking name?

I may be disorientated, but I knew whose name that was, and it wasn't mine. She was the girl I was supposed to follow so I could find the outlaw Al-Hez. Was she here with me? That would make sense that I would follow her into stasis somewhere.

My eyelids hurt too much to work through that stuck feeling like they were sealed closed with that clear hardened gelatin from the stasis pods. I hated that confused feeling of not knowing the twenty-four hours leading up to stasis because short term memory didn't survive the process well.

"Restricted-ed-d," I heard the word echo in the room we were in and needed my translator to start working properly so I could assess the situation I was in. If it was malfunctioning, then I had to pray it didn't reach my keycodes to connection with my hacking programs and to Indi.

My throat felt like cotton as I made to speak to activate my programs since my arms weren't cooperating.

"Ind-d-di," I croaked, "Ac-c-ti-vat-te."

"Ashley, there seems to be a disturbance to my ability to reach my memory stores. I'm afraid I will be unable to initiate any protocols without direct access. If you would connect me to a local server--"

Thank the stars he was still there, but I cut him off before he could start spiraling, "Not imp-port-t-tant. Ass-ssess systems and what's hap-ppening."

Even my fucking teeth ached, and I couldn't feel my tongue.

"Primary functions show you have been supplied with a standard medpack for stasis recovery, but you have not been given sedatives to keep you stable for this process. There are high levels of metal beyond the standard medbots in your blood stream, which don't seem to be assisting the issue of toxicity which is interfering with my ability to reach my data stores beyond the implant and elevating your core temperature in a natural immune response to foreign particles.

"I fear at this rate, your body will begin rejecting all upgrades to your natural biology in an effort to purge the overdose. This includes my own programming, and the likelihood that you will be required to interface with me through the remote servers manually. Protocols to reach out to you will begin after twenty-four Earth hours of not being able to connect."

I groaned. Tell me something I don't know, Indi, I thought with annoyance.

"Your translator should still function without connectivity to other servers. Ah, there we are, your noise control was set to nearly one hundred percent, but the surrounding noise is quite loud. I will try to filter necessary data without harming your fevered sensitivity."

I hated not having Indi connected to his servers, he was so formal and annoying with only the base protocols installed. He'd never know it, because I would never admit it to him, but I liked his personality upgrade that he downloaded without permission. Not sure what I was expecting to happen when I'd programed him to disregard most laws and rules to hack into places he shouldn't be, but wanting to be more human wasn't one of them.

"There we are," he said and then I heard the word, "Sold."

Fuck, that didn't sound good.

"Were you recording?" I prompted Indi.

"I always record, but my data stores are limited without connectivity in your current state. After review, it seems you have taken on the identity of Riley Spearit as a decoy and sent yourself to the planet Estreldez, but the last log pinged to my files was from the planet Krelis.

"You seem to have been redirected from your destination and removed from stasis without proper procedures. You have been sold to a krelin based on recorded conversations since being activated. Ah, you are lucky. They are not transferring you to another ship, this will make it easier for my main servers to find you later. You were sold to a krelin named Domsal, and a pleasure district called the Kokova."

Great, I thought sarcastically, just another bump on the road towards finding Al-Hez. Honestly, it seemed too perfect to be hijacked like this, and this whole situation had all the underpinnings of being targeted by the bastard I was hunting.

If he thought being sent to a slut shack was going to stop me and my team from finding them, they had another thing coming. Indi would hack into their system eventually and I'd be out of there in no time.

Just needed to recover and be ready when Indi's main servers found me.

I shivered and pain shot through my spine.

"I'm experiencing a series of disruptions to my functionality as your temperatures continue to rise," Indi didn't sound "concerned", but that was just a side-effect of only having part of his data available on my implant. There was no point in telling me that there were disruptions when he should be saying which functions were down and actively trying to solve the issue, but I knew when he spoke like that it meant there was nothing he could do. He was worried, not for himself, since this was only a copy of his base programing functions, his main servers would be fine without me.

"I'm reprogramming the nanobots that try to connect with your implant to try to save the core systems when I'm no longer viable. They are not ideal, but they do as they are programmed within their capabilities."

"She is showing signs of the Fume Fever," someone said, but their voice sounded muffled and distant.

"If she is worthy of the hive then she will survive," a male hissed and a series of clicking noises filled the room.

I knew only the basics about the krelins because of their association with the estrelds, but that was Bryce's area of expertise to know about the species we came in contact with. Without Indi or Bryce to help, I was screwed.

"Protocol wizard initiated," Indi chimed, and I knew he'd shut down soon. It was just a reminder that he thought the error probability that accounted for the infinite improbabilities of one existing in multiple states at once like he explained that he did. I was rambling, and Indi sometimes said things that were hard to understand about himself, but it was clear enough that he believed given my molecular structure, that I would never fully understand his quantum computing functions, but that I would have to believe in the magic of the unexplainable, though he thought he was perfectly explained. Protocol wizard was a reminder to believe in the small chance of my survival even if I had to tell my mind magic was real.

Magic is real, Indi, I thought with a determination even my mother could be proud of.

I was going to beat this fever and Indi was going to find me in an alien slut shack, then we were going to find that mother-fucking asshole that set us up.

We're coming for you World Destroyer.
