PRACTICAL CBT Newsletter

by Professor Patrick McGhee, FRSA, AFBPsS, BABCP

Dear ,

I hope this finds you well. Research tells us that at this time of the year many people become more positive in their outlook. Taking our inspiration from the surge of spring and elevated mood we are pleased to announce our new Positive Psychology series. These workshops will focus on established and emerging ideas on happiness and subjective well-being, and Seligman's idea of 'PERMA': Positive Emotions, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning and purpose, and Accomplishments. Our first workshop in this series is based on Christine Padesky's SB-CBT (See below). Look out for more in the series in June and July.

We are also running our popular workshop on Compassion again this month, with a focus on applying Compassion Focused Therapy techniques within CBT.

Further details on these are below along with our full list of workshops for May and June - and a special discount code for this week.

Developing Clients' Strength Based Resilience through SB-CBT

Padesky and Mooney's four-step Strengths-Based cognitive-behavioural therapy (SB-CBT) model is designed to help clients build positive qualities.Building positive qualities in therapy with clients is different to treating client distress. The 4-step SB-CBT model focuses on the client's current strengths, the positive use of imagery and client-generated metaphors. The Strengths-Based CBT model offers a template that can be used to develop other positive human qualities beyond resilience.

The workshop will also examine how therapists can apply SB-CBT to their own personal development and growth.
